1,088 of 1,806 admitted PG medical students reported so far

A statement from the Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate & Postgraduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPUGMEC and ACPPGMEC) said on Friday that 1,088 students of the total 1,774 admitted students in postgraduate medical courses such as MD, MS, diploma and MDS have reported to help centers and confirmed their admissions. There are total 1,806 PG medical seats in the state.
As per rules, 15% of all UG medical seats and 50% of seats in PG courses in the state are reserved for the all India quota students. The remaining seats are state quota seats which are further divided as government, management and NRI quota seats.
The statement said that of the toal 1,077 MD seats, 32 seats are vacant while all 499 seats in MS course have been filled. All 17 diploma seats and all 213 MDS seats have also been filled.
The statement said 961 students admitted for MD, MS, Diploma and MDS have reported to help centers while 127 MDS students have reported and confirmed their admissions. The last date of reporting to the help centers is October 8.
The registrations of students who have cleared the Postgraduate National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (PG NEET) had started on September 15 and ended on September 21.
On September 20, the Gujarat Intern Doctors’ Association and Gujarat MBBS Students’ Association filed a writ petition in Gujarat high court against the state health department’s decision to admit MBBS students who have completed their Class 12 from Gujarat but did their MBBS in other states in the state quota of post graduation.
Medical students associations had said that so far only the students who have completed MBBS in Gujarat and who are of domicile of Gujarat were eligible for getting admission in state quota PG medical. However, the state government has now decided to allow students who completed MBBS outside Gujarat to take part for both government and private PG seats of Gujarat.
