CMCH gets ₹97 lakh to set up pay wards

Coimbatore: The work to set up pay wards in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) is gaining momentum with the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC) allocating 97 lakh for the project.

Speaking to TOI, CMCH dean Dr A Nirmala said a section of people is staying away from CMCH, despite knowing that the facility offers better healthcare, only because there is no privacy in the wards, like in private hospitals. “They will be able to stay in individual or shared-rooms with attached toilets for a small fee. The move will also increase footfalls,” she said.

According to TNMSC, authorities are planning to establish a VIP room and two shared rooms in the obstetrics and gynaecology department and a 12-bed dormitory and four single VIP rooms in the general ward on the first floor of the centenary building.

The 12-bed dormitory will have partitions to earmark six beds each for men and women.

The fund allocated for the project shall be utilised for civil works, renovation of existing rooms and to buy medical equipment, an official said.

The public works department has been directed to invite bids for the project.
