EOFC to bring in inclusive educational ecosystem in AICTE affiliated institutions

AICTE has given the directive to the engineering colleges to Equal Opportunity Facilitation Cell (EOFC)at their campuses to give a conducive environment to physically challenged students. This will enable physically challenged students to get better performing conditions in technical institutions.
As part of setting up EOFC, institutes would need to appoint a senior faculty as a nodal officer, who would be assisted by non-teaching staff as well as representatives from NGOs specialising in the empowerment of PWDs. The EOFC would create awareness among stakeholders and create equal opportunities by addressing their requirements.
The colleges will share details on their website on facilities available in their institution for physically challenged students to help them during admission.
Speaking to Education Times, Anil Sahasrabudhe, chairman, AICTE, says, “EOFC will create equal opportunities for the physically challenged students. In addition to this, some students from remote rural areas face language barriers and come from varied backgrounds will get support too.”
“In the past, we have also directed the technical institutes to establish an anti-ragging committee, a redressal cell of women-related issues, and general grievances committee to help the students,” says Sahasrabuddhe.
IK Bhat, vice-chancellor, Manav Rachna University, Faridabad, says, “This decision by AICTE will ensure an inclusive classroom in the technical institutes, essential for creating homogeneity. In addition to this, institutes need to ensure the assimilation of psychologically-challenged students. The NEP 2020 also advocates for inclusivity that demands sensitisation of teachers and change in the teaching methods.”
