Medical institutions alerted on sudden spurt of dengue cases in Khurda dist

Bhubaneswar: Health and family welfare department has asked all medical institutions including private sector to be on highest alert for admitting and treating all dengue patients on a priority basis.
The department has issued this alert after a sudden surge of dengue cases in Khurda district including capital city of Bhubaneswar. More than 2400 dengue cases have been reported from the city from January to till date.
Ajit Kumar Mohanty, special secretary of health department in a letter to collector and chief district medical and public health officer of Khurda district, Bhubaneswar municipal corporation commissioner, all private health institutions in Khurda district to take necessary proactive measures to combat the spread of dengue in Khurda district.
“There should be ‘zero death’ strategy due to dengue, intensive information education communication (IEC) activities may also be undertaken including the mainstream electronic media for creating awareness among the general public to prevent dengue,” said Mohanty in the letter.
A public health officer said the dengue cases should have reduced after Durga Puja, but 10 to 15 dengue cases are being reported daily. “After low pressure rain, dengue cases are reported from the city. Normally we were witnessing negligible cases of dengue in October, but this time it is different,” he added.
