Wash and soak 2 cups of basmati rice. Separate the broccoli into small florets and chop it into small strips too.
Now combine 1 tsp fennel seeds, 5-6 peppercorns, 1” piece of cinnamon, 1 clove, 1” piece ginger, 5 cloves of garlic, handful mint leaves, 4 green chilies, and ¼ tsp turmeric powder. Grind them coarsely.
Heat 2 tbsp oil and ghee in a heavy bottomed pan. Add a bay leaf. Add the ground paste and fry for a minute. Add the drained rice and fry for another minute. Add ½ cup coconut milk, 1 tsp lemon juice, salt and 3 cups of water. Bring it to a boil.
Reduce the heat, cover with a lid and let it cook for 10-15 minutes. Add in the broccoli florets.
Cover again and let it steam for 5-7 minutes. Serve and enjoy.
